Internal Medicine

We take care of the whole patient for life
An Internal Medicine physician or "Internist" is a specialist physician concerned with all aspects of adult medicine, excluding surgery and advanced gynecology. Their training is dedicated to learning about the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases primarily affecting adults. Their concerns include such diverse problems as arthritis, hypertension, heart and disease, diabetes and thyroid disorders, stress and depression, obesity, as well as nearly any other illness, acute or chronic, minor or major that may befall an adult.

They see patients for all types of symptoms, physical or emotional complaints and illnesses throughout all phases of their lives-from adolescence to geriatric, from office to hospital to intensive care to the nursing home. When other medical specialists are involved it is the Internist who takes responsibility to coordinate the ca re of the patient and manage the complex medical and social problems associated with their care.
